The Yugoslavian M48BO (Bez Oznake, or "Without Markings") was produced by Zastava Arms in Kragujevac during the 1950s for covert export and international military contracts. One of the most historically intriguing orders was the Egyptian Contract, wherein Yugoslavia supplied unmarked intermediate-length 8mm Mauser rifles to the Egyptian armed forces during a period of geopolitical realignments in the Middle East. Built on the heavy-duty Mauser 98 controlled-round feed action, these rifles feature an intermediate receiver ring, full-length upper wooden handguard, and a turned-down bolt handle with a flattened teardrop knob.
