Ruger completely eliminated this reliability bottleneck by adapting the patented two-stage piston gas system from their successful SR-556 rifle line. This short-stroke piston mechanism hits a regulator block to drive the bolt backward, venting excess carbon cleanly forward near the muzzle instead of fouling the action. Built to handle both commercial .308 Winchester and military-surplus 7.62x51mm NATO ammunition, the rifle features a multi-position adjustable gas regulator. This allow shooters to tune the gas velocity perfectly to match different bullet weights or suppressor pressures, ensuring flawless cycling under any conditions.
